Description

Abstract
Abstract: Bisphenol A (BPA) has been widely used in the industries for 40~50 years. The humanexposures can come from various routes, since many products nowadays contain BPA. It was alsoreported that BPA existed in atmospheric environment all over the world, especially in South Asiawhere the concentrations are relatively high. Besides, indoor air and indoor dusts are alsosuspected to be the sources of exposures for BPA.Based on published literatures, the contributions of BPA to human exposures mainly came fromdietary sources. However, the levels in indoor air and indoor dusts are more important for infantsand toddlers, due to their unique life styles. To assess the exposures for this susceptible group, there is a must to determine the associated concentrations, since no data is currently available inTaiwan. This is a three years joint-project, which will focus on the developing of sampling and analyticalmethods for BPA in indoor air, indoor dusts, atmospheric environment as well as in processed andbaby foods. Besides, the distributions of BPA in different environmental matrix will also bedetermined. The purposes of this research are: (1) to develop the sampling and analytical methodfor BPA in indoor air by SPME (solid phase microextraction) with non-equilibrium sampling throughthe analysis by triple quadrupole gas chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (GC/MS/MS)(8/2013~7/2014); to develop the analytical method for BPA in indoor dusts by SPME with MAE(microwave assisted extraction) through the analysis by GC/MS/MS (8/2013~7/2014); (2) to developthe sampling and analytical method for both gaseous and particle bound BPA in atmosphericenvironment by polyurethane foam (PUF) and quartz filter through the analysis by GC/MS/MS(8/2014~7/2015; on-going project); (3) to develop the passive sampling and analysis method forairborne BPA in atmospheric environment by PUF (8/2014~7/2015; on-going project); (4) todetermine the concentrations of BPA in various processed foods in Taiwan through SPME + MAE(8/2015~7/2016; the focus of this proposal); (5) to assess infants’ and toddlers’ exposures of BPAin Taiwan by determining the concentrations in infant formula and baby foods through SPME + MAE(8/2015~7/2016; the focus of this proposal); (6) to determine whether different ways of foodcontainer using will affect the levels of BPA occurred by performing Taguchi experimental design(8/2015~7/2016; the focus of this proposal); and (7) the exposure assessments – thedeterminations of BPA in indoor air, indoor dusts, atmospheric environment as well as processedand baby foods (8/2015~7/2016; the focus of this proposal).
