Abstract: With the rapid development of modern technology, electromagnetic wave forms a dense radiation field on the surface of the earth. The physiological functions of biological organisms might become abnormal with over-dosed electromagnetic exposure. Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) of honey bees has been observed in Europe and North America before 2006. A similar phenomenon has also been reported in Taiwan since April 2007. The causes of the CCD syndrome could be many and are not yet fully understood. Many authorities attribute the problem to many factors; one of the highly speculative possibilities is cell phone radiation or geomagnetic anomaly. Since the extremely low frequency (VLF) magnetic fields are distributed broadest in the environment, this project endeavors to design and implement of the high-intensity magnetic field generator with variable frequencies (within VLF band) and its specific power supply (inverter). To confirm performance of the developed equipment, this project also designed the related experiments for evaluate the effects of magnetic field exposure on honeybees. In the 1st year of this project, we propose to design the implement a static electromagnetic fields generator with an electromagnetic shield and a large-power DC power supply. In the 2nd year, we will start to develop a large-power dynamic electromagnetic fields generator. A computer-aided automatic control system will be developed to control the electromagnetic fields generator. A series of biology experiments will be conducted to investigate the response of honey bees’ physiological functions under magnetic field exposures.
