The accurate structural parameters of single-phased CeSi3N5 were determined utilizing the Rietveld refinement process. Upon excitation at 353 nm, CeSi3N5 exhibited an intense blue emission assigned to a Ce3+ ion transition. When Tb3+ ions were doped into the host, several Tb3+ emission lines and a decrease in Ce3+ emission were observed. Energy transfer from Ce3+ to Tb3+ resulted in a color shift from blue to greenish blue. The color-tunable CeSi3N5:Tb3+ phosphors to be used in ultraviolet light-emitting diodes were developed by modulating the Tb 3+ concentrations. ? 2011 The American Ceramic Society. |
