Nineteen cases (42.2%) were prenatally diagnosed by sonography. Twenty-five cases were spontaneously delivered and 20 were delivered by cesarean section. The abdominal defect was repaired by layered primary closure among 13 cases and by staged operations among the remaining 32 (skin flap closure in 24, and silastic pouch closure in 8). Twenty. Two percent of all 45 cases (10/45) had major associated anomalies which consisted of 20% gastrointestinal abnormalities and 2% extra- gastrointestinal anomalies. The overall survival rate was 84.4%. We reviewed the principles of prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal management of gastroschisis. |
