Description

Abstract

Abstract: In organic microporous nanomaterials, such as zeolites, have been broadly applied to gas adsorption, membrane separation, and catalysis. However, most popularly used microporous materials have high sphericity, referred to as 3D nanomaterials. The research of inorganic low-dimensional nanomaterials, meaning inorganic layered nanomaterials or nanotubes, is still in its infancy. This proposal is aimed to investigate the inorganic low-dimensional nanomaterials and evaluates their potential to separation applications. Specific research topics are the following:

1. From the molecular level self-assembly stand point, elucidate the key parameters for materials to form 3D or 1D/2D structures.

2. The fabrication of 1D/2D nanoporous material-containing membranes and the control over the orientation and distribution of low-dimensional materials in the membranes.

3. Investigating the gas separation performance of the obtained membranes and analyzing the role of the low-dimensional materials in mass transport.

The scope of this project spans across the nanomaterials and engineering. We expect the results would open up new possibilities of nanoporous materials and would also bring positive impact to the green energy-saving separation techniques.
