Abstract: North Taiwan Nano-Technology K-12 Human Resources Development Program
Twenty-first century is considered to be knowledge-based economic society with high technology. As one of the major leading technology, the nano-technology has becoming a more and more important science and technology for the world. Since year 2002, the Executive Yuan of Taiwan has conducted a nano-technology national project. Some funds from this national project have been devoted into the human resources development. Further, to fulfill the needs of human resources for the future ten, twenty, even thirty years, the education for the present K-12 young students is essential at the present time. The current program emphasizes nanotechnology educational programs at the K-12 level. The focus of the K-12 Nanotechnology Program was to provide teachers information about nanotechnology and to develop material to inspire students to learn about advanced technology. In cooperation with the Ministry of Education, National Taiwan University was invited to establish the one of the five regional centers in Taiwan. For the North Regional Center, union K-12 schools are formed by elementary schools, junior high schools, and senior high schools from each regional center. The goals and visions are given as follows:
(1) To promote the cognition of nanotechnology to the participating teachers,
(2) To develop material to inspire students to learn about advanced technology,
(3) To popularize the information of nanotechnology,
(4) To establish the network of Nanotechnology Human Resource Development to spread the education of nanotechnology.
