Abstract: Biotechnology is progressing rapidly in this 21th century and every countary is devoting significant amount of money and resources with an attempt to take the lead of the technologies in this field nowadays. As it stands now, many of the biotech research results are entering into our daily life within 10 years. With the revolution of the communication and the information technology (ICT) and many related technologies, the daily life of us have been improved by leaps and bounds over the last century, which is more than all previous centuries combined. In this new century, people does not only ask for living longer, possess better living standards, they are interested in rasing their living qualities as well. To summarize this perspective in one word, people want to “live long, live well, and live with dignity.” As a result, the biotechnology is gaining its ground when compared to other technologies when help people with better health is getting ever important as time goes by.
To advance our biotechnology, bio-medical detection intrument instead of pharmaceutical medicine seems to be a better choice as Taiwan has accumulated a lot of fabrication technique and experiences over the years of pursuing effieicnt and complete ICT production supply chain. To capitalize in this current situation, the main pursue of the wireless nano-bio research team here at National Taiwan University decided to develop the “bio-analysis instument” during the last round of funding cycle in our National Science and Technoloyg Priority Project in Biotech area.
Statistics has shown that our knowledge in the biotech area began to double daily since the beginning of year 2005, limit our research within Taiwan only has become a serious limit. Since international collaboration has shown to provide internationally reputable research teams with most appropriate platforms to excel, identifying compatible research teams internationally is now becoming a must for nations seek to advance its international standing. It is to be noted that better international standing of a nation’s technologies and industries can mean better life for its citizens.
This research proposal attempts to advance the research output of the projet entitled, “Opto-Biomorphin (short named OBMorph): a multifunctional opto-electronic biochip system” funded by “National Science and Technology Program in Biotechnology and Drug Research and Development.“ The international laboratory to be collaborated is of the same excellent international standing. The Laboratoire de Photonique Quantique et Moléculaire (LPQM) of the Institut d’Alembert in Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan in France will serve as the international counterpart. A post doctoral researcher will bring a “Opto-Biomorphin, OBMorph” prototype to the LPQM with an attempt to puruse some biomedical related measurements by using this instrument and the funding from this proposal will be used to add some additional sub-systms to the
