Description
Journal of the Formosan Medical Association (JFMA) is the flagship journal in Taiwan, not only for its long history but also for being the first clinical journal to be included in SCI. This journal publishes various kinds of articles on a monthly base. We also publish supplemental issues occasionally to focus on some important medical topics. The most updated statistics show that JFMA has an IF of 2.6 and ranked 21.5 percentile in Internal and general medicine. We received 727 articles from January to September 2024 and our current rejection rate is 67%. Most of the contributors are from domestic hospitals and medical institutions. Foreign contributions including those from other countries and mainland China are also received and on a rising trend. In 2008, there was a re-organization of domestic and international editorial boards. To increase the contribution from North America, we added a regional editor, Prof. TC Wu, located in the States. Starting from 2012, we included 2 editors from Hong Kong to increase the variety of editorial board. A new feature of JFMA since 2008 is the inclusion of a “Perspectives” in the beginning of each issue. We also publish more review articles. Both categories of articles are to increase our variety and to comment on the current hot medical topics. The new International Editorial Board contributes several articles for this purpose and let their opinions known to our readers. We also continue to improve our editorial business. In 2006, we started to use international editorial system of Elsevier, which has provided many new functions to enable the editors to speed up editorial process and identify possible duplication. To expedite the review process of submitted articles, each handling editor is endowed the authority to make the final disposition of the submissions. We also make our articles easily accessible. All the readers can access the pdf files of all published articles without a log-in requirement. To promote the visibility of certain fields, we continue to publish supplemental issues. In 2008, we collaborated with National Health Research Institute and its Clinical Oncology Study Group to publish a supplemental issue on adaptive design and statistics of clinical trials. This issue is to facilitate the development of clinical trial-related studies in Taiwan. Subsequently, we published Taiwan guidelines on anti-hypertensive therapy. In summary, JFMA strives to improve its quality on the basis of what has been achieved. Our efforts on the streamline of editorial office and quality of articles are to better serve our readers and improve our impact factor. Our success should lead to better visibility of medical studies of Taiwan.
