Abstract
A number of studies pointed out that adding steel fiber to concrete will enhance tensile strength and elastic modulus, develop ductile behavior, and improve failure mechanism. As stated in ACI-318-08, steel fiber is allowed to replace traditional stirrups under certain circumstances. Its contribution for increasing shear strength has been well-recognized.
Despite of having these advantages, steel fiber is not commonly used in practice due to the lack of design formula. In order to increase the prevalence of steel fiber concrete, quantifying the benefits of it is critical for accelerating the development of relevant regulations. The focus of this study is to evaluate the flexure strength of steel fiber concrete and shear strength. By adjusting the parameter of pure concrete base on the experimental results, the prediction formula of new shear strength that applies the principle of mechanic is generated. The data that were collected from various credible sources once again confirmed its accuracy and the range of its application.
