Abstract
The factor interactive effects such as reentry phenomenon, process complexity and variety of workstations of a semiconductor manufacturing system make the estimation of the production cycle time difficult. This affect the calculation of a job due date inaccurately. Therefore, penalty due to order delay occurs frequently, and the company brand name is also affected. Chung and Huang[19] thus developed an algorithm for the production cycle time estimation to enhance the calculation of a job due date. A profit-based dispatching rule proposed by Hou[7] assures the job dispatching lead the maximal production profit. However, some low profitability jobs could be delayed, miss the delivery date and cause penalty, and thus lose company’s name. Can a profit-based job dispatching rule consider the loss from the order delay? This has not be discussed in the past research.
The main purpose of this study is to enhance the profit-based dispatching rule to meet the due date. Firstly, a wafer fabrication simulation model is built to identify that the order delay causes a serious problem if the job profitability is low. Secondly, adopting Chung and Huang’s[19] cycle time estimation, the block checkpoint is added to the profit-based job dispatching rule between batch processes to identify possible job delays. If there is any, penalty occurs, and the profitability of each job is changed. Therefore, job order priorities are changed, and low profitability job can be processed in time. Finally, to demonstrate the proposed method, a simulation case study is performed and shows that the block check point does reduce the job order delays that might occur if a pure profit-based dispatching rule is adopted.
