Abstract
Currently, what TIS (Traveler Information Services) provides for Taiwan train travelers is nothing more than train routes, schedule information and information digitalization. Furthermore, current information systems disregard how transfer information may help travelers and provide static schedule information only. It has been found that the transferring models proposed in previous researches are either considering only the Forward Transfer pattern or ignoring combinations of transfers among different vehicle types, hence underestimate the actual demand of transfer information.
To further benefit travelers by minimizing total traveling time, this research study proposes a railway transfer logic, considering both the Forward and Backward Transfer patterns, Departure and Arrival Terminal Transfers, transfer time and transfers among different vehicle types.
Based on the current train routes and schedules from the Taiwan Railway Administration, the proposed logic is used to develop a prototype Advanced Traveler Information Services for railway transfer to further facilitate decision making on traveling plans and decisions.
