Abstract
Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) possessing the characteristic of
low loss can be utilized to design high quality-factor microwave and
millimeter-wave components. These components can easily interconnect
with other passive/active circuits, thus designers can integrate several siw
components on a single substrate. This thesis targets on designing SIW
directional couplers of two different structures. One is branch-line coupler,
and the other one is Riblet short-slot coupler. These two couplers are both
designed at 30GHz and applied to beam-forming network design.
This thesis is composed of four chapters. Our study motivation and
paper survey are presented in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 reveals the basic
theory of designing SIW directional couplers, including branch-line and
Riblet short-slot couplers. The theories of multi-port circuit measurement
are also described in detail in this chapter. In Chapter 3, the SIW
directional couplers are used to implement a 4X4 Butler matrix circuit.
The Butler matrix circuit has the advantages of easy design and the least
numbers of required components. Finally, based on the results shown in
this thesis, a conclusion is made in Chapter 4.
