Abstract
The electrostatic interaction between two parallel, planar charged surfaces with periodic mixed boundary conditions is analyzed. The Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PBE) governing the potential distribution of the system under consideration is solved by the Fourier transformation method coupled with the convolution theory. The present approach provides an efficient way to solve a PBE with a general mixed boundary condition. On the basis of this approach, an analytical expression for the electrostatic interaction energy is derived. In addition to its generality, the method proposed is very convenient for the description of the shift of the relative position of two surfaces.
