Abstract
Plexiform neurofibroma is a multilobulated, tortuous enlargement or interdigitating network of tumor along a nerve and its branches. It is usually located in the trunk or extremities. Although ultrasonography provides important diagnostic information about soft-tissue tumors, reports of the sonographic appearance of plexiform neurofibroma are limited, especially in the foot. We present the sonographic picture of histologically proven plexiform neurofibroma in the foot. The sonogram demonstrated a tumor with poor margins and multiple hypoechoic nodules intervening with hyperechoic background and several feeding vessels. We also reviewed the literature regarding differentiation of plexiform neurofibroma and neurofibromatosis, and sonographic findings of common soft-tissue tumors.
