Abstract
“Get a room” of Motel in Taiwan has become a fashion trend. This word” Motel” gives people erotic images, but there are still many meaningful things under “Motel”. Trying to find out the other meanings is an important subject. This research focuses on exposure of Motel's space from aspects both of leisure and sexual desire by the method of interviewing 20 motel customers. The discussion mainly makes effort on the link between 'Motel' and family intimacy/privacy. The research made some conclusions. First, because that Motel wants to attract customers, it equips lots of interesting things which are not common at home. By these stuffs, people can have more fun in sex there. Motel transfers sex to some kind of leisure. On the other hand, gathering with friends can avoid the responsibility of housework, and achieve the goal of connect relation. Everyone can enjoy the pleasure of relax. Motel uses the kinds of theme rooms stimulate modern people’s sense. Customers can not only enjoy the happiness of “Theme Park”, but also feel the aroma of foreign countries. Motel sells a conception of “love hotel”; it lets the couples make romance and freshness. But the process of entering Motel is a subject about gender. Paying the bill is related to the complicated views of money and body. It is learned by the Motel equipment that Motel space seems to only exist for straight people. Though Motel rooms are romantic, the essence of running Motel is to improve the relationship between each other. It takes efforts rather than depends on surroundings. Motel is similar to family. It can give people sense of security. But it also has some conflicts with family; individual space becomes to influence the division of family power. By staying at Motel rooms, people can escape from the stereotype of their original families, and reach for the imaginations of their future families. Though the imaginations last for a very short time, people still have to face their true life. No matter for lovers or family members, Motel can give people a place where they can easily hide and relax.
