Abstract
The microemulsion process was
successfully developed for synthesizing
europium-ion doped yttrium aluminum
garnet (YAG: Eu 3+ ) nanoparticles. A thermodynamically stable and transparent microemulsion system was obtained by dissolving suitable water-to-oil ratio. YAG: Eu 3+ with a single phase was obtained after calcination at 1100 o C for 4 h in air. The
formation of single-phase YAG via the
microemulsion process is approximately 600℃lower than that via the solid-state
reaction. As increasing in the calcination temperature, the phosphors still maintained in the nano-sized range with
spherical and dispersed morphology. The emission spectra under the excitation of VUV light confirm the
application of YAG: Eu 3+ phosphors for plasma display panels.
