Abstract
The Red-shirted movement in September of 2006 is a Mass Movement in the history of democratic developments in Taiwan, which gathered much attention. The “One Million against Bien Campaign” is initiated by Shih Ming-Te on August 10th. It ended on October 30th, 2007 when the anti-corruption headquarters announced to donate all the commitment fees. Four climaxes took place during the 1-year period, including: “The Nazca Line” on September 9th, 2006; “Besieging the City with Lights (AKA: Encircling the City)”, which is an anti-A-Bien tour, on September 15th; the “Blossom Everywhere” tour around Taiwan island from September 29th to October 7th, and “Besiege” on October 10th. The movement had tremendous impacts on the political stability at the time. The “anti-corruption”, “transcending the opposition between the DPP and the KMT”, and the “restoration of core values” had profound influences on subsequent political and civil society developments. n this context, discussions on the 2006 Red-shirted Movement are conducted based on “course of history”, “civil society”, and “mobilization of bias.” The emergence, cause, process, and development of the Red-shirted Movement are deeply probed based on Taiwan’s political and economic development transformations, particularly the cause-effect relationship of politics and economy, the social changes that took place after the political power shift, and the interrelationship between “political society” and “economic society” arising from the civil society. Second, in-depth discussions are conducted in terms of the organization, strategy, purpose, outcome, and significance of the Red-shirted movement. The growth and decline of the organization and the endowments in the process are found based on mobilization of bias in order to monitor the parallel dynamics of this movement. Furthermore, the significance of the influences of the Red-shirted Movement on Taiwan’s political developments and civil society are studied.
