Abstract
Nowadays, more and more wireless devices, such as laptops, smartphones, PDAs, handsets, and information appliance are available. New WLAN applications have increased rapidly, such as Peer to Peer applications, VoIP, IPTV and other multimedia applications. The wireless devices need more IP addresses, so we need IPv6 addresses due to the lack address space of IPv4. Devices using IPv6 are few at the moment, so less WISP and academic WLAN deploy IPv6 WLAN, many have no authentication system for IPv6 WLAN. In the future, IPv6 authentication systems for WLAN will be needed. Our work compares existing WLAN authentication systems and implements an IPv6 authentication system for IEEE 802.11 WLAN.
