Abstract
The present thesis investigates two-dimensional dam-break flow through an array ofpright cylinders. Fluorescent particles and blue dye are added to the water to obtainhole-field measurements of flow velocity and depth. The floodable domain iseasured under two circumstances: with and without cylinders. A high speed cameraakes a series of image for tracking particles to survey the velocity vector field (PTV). blue dye solution illuminated from below and imaged from above is used toeasure the variations of water depth. Hamilton’s principle of least action is exploitedo derive the 2DH shallow water equations, and finite volume computations areerformed. Experimental and numerical results, with and without cylinders, areompared with each other.
