Abstract
Because of the development of the in-wheel-drive system, the effect of unsprung mass to the vehicle dynamics thus becomes more significant. In this study, a nonlinear model of double wishbone suspension system is developed. The model is compared to the already developed Macpherson suspension model and the conventional quarter car simplified model. The verification is thus done. Using the model developed in this study, the effect of unsprung mass could be analyzed numerically. The influence to the performance index, such as ride comfort, handling stability and design constraint on available suspension stroke, would be examined. Finally, the design parameters of the double wishbone suspension system are analyzed to find out their effect to vehicle dynamics performance index. It would be helpful to the design of a suspension system while the unsprung mass effect is significant, and must be considered deliberately.
