Abstract
In recent years, industries in Taiwan are confronted with fierce competition from outside environment and market competition. Only those firms which can timely adapt to changing environment can survive. At the same time, distributors all over the world are gaining more and more bargaining power, and become dominant players in all kinds of industries. Therefore, how to deal with powerful players become an important issue in competition, manufacturing firms have to make balance between production and channel distribution. To attract distributors to cooperate, manufacturing firms have to continue being cost down and maintaining high quality.
This research is based on power-tool industry; we focus on Taiwanese manufacturing firms which concentrated on OEM/ODM on the past, when growing at higher rates last ten years, but power-tool channel are becoming new one, how Taiwanese firms react to these situations. We try to use case study research method to understand how these firms react. The results we found that Taiwanese manufacturing firms have to depend on high quality control and improve up-stream integrated capabilities to sustain competitive advantage.
