Abstract
Plasmapheresis is a procedure that is crucial when treating a variety of severe conditions such as autoimmune diseases, thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), and acute liver failure (ALF), mainly by removing circulating pathogenic substances in human plasma. The two most common modalities of plasmapheresis are therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) and double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP). TPE is generally preferred for pediatric patients with its advantage of replenishing deficient factors and removing harmful substances simultaneously.
