Abstract
This thesis investigates the dynamic characteristics of two-ball automatic balancers. A theoretic model of a CD-R drive packed with an automatic balancer was constructed first. The governing equations of the theoretic model were derived by employing Lagrange’s equations. Then we determined the equilibrium position when the imbalance of the balls is lager than, equal to, and small than that of the optical disk. The influence of system parameters on the stability of the equilibrium positions are studied in detail. These results can be used as guide-lines for designing ball-type automatic balancers. Finally, an experimental apparatus was constructed to measure the vibration-reduction effect of the automatic balancer. The experimental results agree with the theoretical results qualitatively.
