Abstract
This research aims to provide a computer-aided approach for building massing during the conceptual design phase. In recent year, computer simulation technology for building energy analysis has become well-developed, and also, more and more important due to the awareness of environmental protection consciousness. To obtain a better energy management of a building, applying energy analysis with the building massing at the earliest phase would be most efficient. However, because of the complexity of the building regulations and zoning laws, it is difficult for architects who are less experienced to complete several massing designs in a certain short time, thereby making it impossible to obtain one better massing design from energy analysis. To address this difficulty, a computer-aided approach is developed in this research to help the designer work more accurately and efficiently when designing building massing.
