Abstract
“Taiwan urban / rural landscape renewal project” has come into operation in Taiwan since 2000, and the government builds bikeways to combine cycling with tourism. The project, which makes the recreation activities of the bicycle substituting for the car or the motorcycle, draws the citizens’ attentions. This study is therefore to comprehend the perception and the behavior of the bicycle tourists. It aims to provide suggestions for the environmental resources managers to manage recreation activity and improve traffic condition. This research investigates the Bali bikeway by having questionnaire survey on the bicycle tourists. The valid questionnaires amount to 496. The returned questionnaires show that the bicycle tourists are mostly college-graduated and aged between twenty-one and forty. Many tourists come with their family or friends to enjoy the cycling for an hour. The ANOVA analysis shows that the tourists’ identification and their behavior will obviously influence their satisfaction with the riding environment. For example, the tourists who are older than forty-one years old and college-graduated will be less satisfied with the bikeway. Those who come to Bali in the morning and ride the bike for a short time will be more satisfied with the bikeway. In addition, this research advances to study the influences of space by analyzing the relationships between the identification, the behavior, and the degree of satisfaction in different bicycle renting stations. The result shows that renting stations around Shihsanhang Museum – the tourists are more highly educated and better paid, co-cyclists are “Family Members” and the frequency of usage is higher; near the ferry transit – the cycling tourists take the MRT make up a higher ratio, “Weekend Morning Tourists” are the most; in the vicinity of Guandu Bridge, as most of the tourists ride toward Guandu Bridge, part of the road section has wider slope and tourists have lower satisfaction in “slope, gentle bend and easy riding”. The results of the research are to suggest the relevant departments to improve the bikeway environment by paying more attentions to those differences.
