Abstract
The rise of cloud computing concept has changed the server industrial structure and caused the brand server companies lose the distinctive value for WebTech customers in public cloud segment because they can’t provide the complementary capability on software application. On the contrary, the ODM firms in Taiwan can provide the relevant value by offering a low cost and customerized server product base on WebTech customer’s requirements.
The purpose of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive framework base on both internal core competencies and external market demand perspectives for firms in the server industry in Taiwan to analyze their strategy in the cloud computing environment.
By using this framework, the ODM companies can identify and create their new distinctive competencies through adjusting their internal resources and capabilities in order to build a new strategy for a sustaining competitive advantage. In addition, this framework can enable the ODM campanies to recongize the different businesses historical growth paths and develop their core competencies to match the market segment they targeted accordingly.
