Abstract
Zirconia powder is synthesized via two reverse microemulsion. In this system, two solution of reverse
microemulsion, one containing Zr 4+ aqueous droplets and the other aqueous ammonia droplets, with the same water/oil
(W/O) ratio are prepared separately and mixed together to form a slurry of ZrO2 precursors. Then the precursors are
retrieved and calcined to form tetragonal ZrO2. The preparation conditions that affect the morphology, degree of
agglomeration and particle size are investigated, including water to oil ratio, water to surfactant ratio, and concentration
of aqueous solution. Morphology and distribution of zirconia nanoparticles are examined by TEM, and then a set of
operation conditions of better product quality was chosen for the large-scale experiment. In large-scale experiment, a
five-liter reactor is applied to synthesize ZrO2 nanoparticles. The product, product yield and degree of agglomeration
are investigated and compared with that of small-scale experiment.
