Abstract
This paper first describes the configuration of ADVANCE-F (Advanced Drive Vehicle/Automatic Navigation and Control Enroute System - Freeway), an Automated Highway/Vehicle Control System (AVCS) which has been developed in Taiwan. Several similar systems such as PATH (UC Berkeley, USA), TOYOTA (Japan), BENZ (Germany), and OSU (Ohio State University, USA) are then presented. A comparison is made of these different systems with special attention being given to: system environment; longitudinal control; lateral control; traffic operation; and efficiency. Finally, the potential application of these systems is then briefly discussed.
