Abstract
The kinetics of the reverse transformation from ferrite to austenite have been investigated to provide a basis for the modelling of microstructure in multirun, steel weld deposits. The reaustenitization process has been studied for two starting microstructures, one consisting of a mixture of bainitic ferrite and austenite, and the other of acicular ferrite and austenite. Both isothermal and continuous heating experiments have been carried out under conditions where reverse transformation involves simply the growth of already existing austenite. The results are analysed theoretically using an approximate model for the growth of austenite, and an attempt is made to explain the differences in the observed reaustenitization behaviour of bainite and acicular ferrite. © 1989.
