Abstract
Recent investigation of the crystallization of the Na2O-CaO-P2O5-SiO2 glass-ceramics system has revealed the evolution of a unknown compound. Electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) have allowed identification of the phase as (Na0.11,Ca0.89)(P0.11,Na0.89)O3 with a triclinic P1 structure. The lattice parameters were also calculated from the X-ray powder diffraction; they were in agreement with the results of the transmission electron microscopy. A series of nucleation and crystal growth processes of the glass ceramics was observed by optical microscopy, SEM and TEM. © 1989.
