Abstract
There are two main topics in this thesis, (1) the Second Generation Mobile Phone - GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) system (2) the Third Generation Mobile Phone WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) system. And two topics are all focused on equalizer on the mobile terminal.
The GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) system was developed from 1982 until now. So in the system or circuit implementation is almost optimized. Like equalizer in the GSM mobile phone is implemented by Viterbi algorithm. But in the channel estimation, there are some spaces to improve. In this thesis, we apply a new channel estimation method and show that its performance is about 1dB better than the traditional one by simulation.
In WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), we study on mobile phone suffering from interference by the downlink signal in the multi-path channel. There are many studies on this topic like adding an equalizer before the RAKE receiver, or implement by Generalized RAKE receiver. But the complexity is too high. So we provide a simplified Generalized RAKE receiver method and simulation result demonstrate that the performance we design indeed works better than the Rake receiver.
