Abstract
The immediate factors and the essential factors are the focus of our discussion. The diplomatical preoccupation of Peking, the political uncertainty of the Chinese Communist regime and the anxiety about the development of democracy in the ROC are the major immediate factors of the crises. The PRC's policy toward Taiwan and the mainland policy of the ROC are the essential factors. In the last part, the paper predicts the future development of Cross-Strait relations, the existence of military threat from the PRC in the Asia-Pacific region, the continuation of violent diplomatic competition between two sides of Taiwan Strait, the reopening of negotiation between Taipei and Peking depending on the will of the PRC, the intensification of functional exchanges between the PRC and the ROC and the increasing importance of issue on the establishment of security system in the Asia-Pacific region are the main trend in future development of Cross-Strait relations.
