Abstract
This project is to study the familial
aggregation of blood lipid level in Chin-Shan
community. We enrolled three families,
involved 113 persons, with extended
pedigree. The relationships among family
were confirmed by formal documents. The
study groups were much younger than
original cohort population, but with higher
triglyceride levels and similar levels of
cholesterol and Apo B levels. The familial
correlation coefficient were calculated by the
FCOR program implemented in SAGE
software. We found that among marital
relationships, there were positive ApoA1
correlation(r=0.73), and negative ApoB
correlation (r=0.23). Among the parental-offspring
relationships, there was a moderate
positive correlation in HDL-C level(r=0.34);
and apparently no correlation between
siblings yet. Among the pairs of grandparents
and grandchildren, significant negative
correlations were identified for total
cholesterol, triglyceride and ApoB. Different
patterns of correlations among the parents
and offsprings were identified such as. There
were strong positive relationships between
fathers and daughters in the levels of
triglyceride and apoB levels. In conclusion,
this study dermonstrated an familial
aggregation on lipid levels, environmental
influences on does play an important role in
part of our study the lipid levels within
family members, especially between
grandparents and grandchildren.
