Abstract
The objective of this study is to establish a rational inspection method to evaluate the pavement structure capacity changes due to utility cuts. The Portable Falling Weight Deflectometer (PFWD) was adopted for its easy maneuverable, economic, nondestructive, and fast detection features. This study first determined the appropriate combination of drop height and load plate size of PFWD to be applied on the utility cuts repair area. Furthermore, the inspection procedure, conducting the PFWD tests before utility cuts, after temporary repair, and after permanent repair at the same test locations on flexible pavement, was established and the templates of test points were also developed. The research work showed that the established inspection method can provide a promising result of differentiating the relative changes of pavement structural behavior before and after the utility cuts.
