Abstract
It is highly correlated between medical industry development and national power and people’s life quality; the advanced countries’ government put much attention to health-related policies, expenditure and development. However, with the decrease of global labor force, the rising of aged population and healthcare costs, and the limited resources issues have gradually emerged, the medical problems are getting complex. Over the past decade, advanced information technology leads the intelligent medical industry rising, and also provides a solution for the global medical plight.
Intelligent medical industry is not only one of the emerging industries worldwide, but also one of the six emerging industries in Taiwan driven by the Executive Yuan since 2009. The core is through advanced networking and communication technology to enhance the efficiency of medical services to achieve the goal of patient-centered care. It includes building of the infrastructure, the development of medical electronic instruments and smart devices, the construction of total solutions and the service platforms. It is applied from healthcare institutions to home, and the users are from medical professionals to people all genus.
The intelligent medical industry development needs mature electronics technology. From 1960s till now, Taiwan''s electronics industry began from processing -oriented, and then to the high-level R & D and professional electronics manufacturing services. It brings the deep impact not only in Taiwan but the world industry. However, Taiwan electronics industry is in the mature stage, and also face low value-added capabilities and unable to grasp the core technologies now. Therefore, Taiwan''s electronics industry began to seek other way out. The intelligent medical industry might be the new opportunity of Taiwan''s electronics industry.
To know the development and strategy of Taiwan electronics industry from the viewpoint of the intelligent medical industry, the study analyzed the current situation and future development of the two industries at first, and then found the development of two industries specificity and relevance. Furthermore, through the case study of Taiwanese electronics industry leader - Hon Hai Group, to understand its evolution and development. Using Porter''s five forces analysis, we knew the strengths and weaknesses of the development in the intelligent medical industry and the development strategy in the group of the future.
We found that the characteristics of the intelligent medical industry are different from the electronics industry in Taiwan. However, the intelligent medical product is more profitable and professional; it’s still worth to put more resources in intelligent medical industry for electronics industry. It suggested that there are some directions to develop intelligent medical industry, such as using the origin role of electronic industry chain, developing mergers and acquisitions or strategic alliance, interdisciplinary incubation and grasp the patent and core technology.
