Abstract
The corrugated long period fiber gratings (LPFGs) reported by our group in 1999 overcome the limitation of conventional fabrication methods which in most cases require photosensitive fibers for making conventional LPFGs. In addition, the corrugated long period fiber gratings possess the characteristics of tunable coupling strength and resonant conditions. In 2006 and 2007, new methods of fabricating symmetric and asymmetric LPFGs by the use of photolithography were reported also by our group. However, this method might be expensive and time consuming. In this thesis, we propose a new method by the use of hot embossing and imprint lithography for fabricating corrugated LPFGs, including symmetric and asymmetric ones. In this method, we can control the asymmetry. Such a method offers the advantage of shortening processing time. The unique optical characteristics of corrugated LPFGs are also discussed in this thesis.
