Abstract
Employing literature review and analysis,
questionnaires, and statistics analysis, the
researcher explored the leadership style of
middle level managers in the university
libraries in Taiwan area. This research project is
intended to add to the narrative literature and to
begin an empirical assessment of the leadership
of middle level managers within the field of
librarianship. With the hope that we can help
middle managers develop high quality
leadership skills and promote service quality of
the library.
This paper addresses the following
research questions: (1) What is the perceived
leadership style of middle level managers in
Taiwan’s university libraries? (2) Is there any
discrepancy between middle managers'
self-perceived leadership style and subordinate
librarians' perceptions in Taiwan’s university
libraries? (3) How middle managers’ belief in
internal (or external) control affects their
self-perceived leadership style? (4) How
subordinate librarians' belief in internal (or
external) control affects their perception of
middle level managers’ leadership style?
