Abstract
Abstract
This thesis studies the realizations of Inerter. Inerter is a passive mechanical element which makes the mechanical networks truly analogous to the electrical networks. The Inerter concept can be realized by different mechanical structures. We will discuss three mechanical realizations of Inerter, namely the ‘rack-and-pinion inerter’, ‘ball screw inerter’ and ‘hydraulic inerter’. Furthermore, for the applications to vehicle suspension, we design a mechanism which assembles a parallel combination of Inerter, spring and damper. Considering the nonlinear properties of inerter, we proposed some inerter models and conduct a series of experiments to verify them.
