Abstract
The design of actively controlled hard disk suspension assemblies is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem. The integrated structure/control objectives consist of natural frequencies and an optimal control performance index with weighted system state regulation errors and control efforts, subject to some side constraints on design variables that describe the geometry of the suspension. Two multiobjective optimization techniques, goal programming and compromise programming, are implemented through an interface program communicating with an advanced finite element analysis program. The feasibility of the optimal design is demonstrated and the final decision making is also discussed.
