Abstract
The purpose of this project is to
develop a multiple-control electric
wheelchair which could be provided
selective control methods for different
disabled users and could be switched
among these control methods according
to the environmental change. The input
command set is based on pattern
recognition of the electromyographic
(EMG) and vocal signals.
In the second year a improved
prototype wheelchair with a digital
signal processing (DSP) control system
which contained two control methods is
developed and new algorithm was
designed for switching command
sources according to the environmental
requirement. The goal of third year was
to improve the safety and to combine
with the input devices which designed
by other subprojects. Clinical validation
of this intelligent DSP control system is
also performed. This new system will be
helpful to severe physically disabled
such as cervical cord injured patients
