Abstract
The thesis deals with the oxygen consumption of proton exchange membrane fuel cell effected by the channel width, gas flow rate and humidified.The consumption of oxygen in cathode field correlates with the performance of cell so that this experiment to used gas chromatograph measures the cathode oxygen mole fraction distribution along flow channel to fine out the reaction condition at different locate in order to increase the rate of oxygen involvement and eventually to increase the efficiency and stability of the cell. The fluid dynamic computational code FLUENT was used to assist the paper that experiment result discussion and accuracy.
This thesis is composed of two parts: single-channel and serpentine.
Single-channel deals with the consumption of oxygen at different channel width to compare with numerical analysis and used the current interrupt technique to comprehend overvoltage divergence between experiment and numerical result.The serpentine experiment to confer between two different channel width changed inlet gas flow rate, anodic side humidified and cell operation voltage deals with the mole fraction of oxygen at different extraction ports. The results indicated the concentration of oxygen in the cathode are significant effects for the cell performance, the concentration over-potential increased while the failure to transport sufficient oxygen to the catalyst, oppositely the cell performance increased as the inlet flow rate. The channel at forward reactant are increased while the anode side humidified, especially in high flow rate humidified is necessary to avoid reactant harmful cause the channel
at forward too dry.
