Abstract
Visualization of the convection pattern in and the melt/solid interfaces of a transparent floating zone can be subjected to significant optical distortions due to the lens effect of the melt. A procedure for correcting such optical distortions helps interpret the results of visualization properly. In the present study, such a procedure is presented and verified. This procedure applies to a floating zone of nonuniform as well as uniform diameter. © 1993.
