Abstract
The emergence of the Internet as a pervasive communication medium has led to the development of many application, including file transferring, web, peer-to-peer applications, etc. The peer-to-peer application is becoming popular to user doing file transferring. Anyone who can connect to internet could publish his files by peer-to-peer application without building up his own server. The more and more peer-to-peer application usage has impact to the whole network, and makes network administrators to have to take an eye on.
In order to understand the characteristic of the peer-to-peer application, we chose to use a packet-captured approach to find out how a eDonkey client works, and use netflow provided by Cisco to find out a whole eDonkey network works like. Out findings not only enable us to understand the behavior of eDonkey network but also provide network administrators the way to efficiently manage the network resources.
