Abstract
A shear tester is used to measure the rheological properties of the powder bed under both compressive and tensile states, and a three-dimensional flowability surface can be constructed using normal stress, shear stress, and bed voidage as the three axes. This study extends the yield envelope into the tensile stress region by conducting shear tests under incipient fluidization conditions. The effects of liquid viscosity and dosage on the shape and extent of the flowability surface are investigated to elucidate the role of liquid bridge variations in regulating the powder bed flowability. A quadratic polynomial correlation is found to well fit the flowability surface. The flowability surface morphology evolves into a smoother pattern with liquid addition.
