Abstract
On the basis of a thorough analysis and investigation on the development of Taipei Century Symphony Orchestra (TCSO) in the past thirty-six years, the purpose of this study was to figure out which qualifications TCSO should bear when it encounters not only changeful music ecology but the competition with homogeneous, private symphony orchestras as well.
The study has three significances: 1. to comprehensively investigate TCSO; 2. to analyze the policies of government subsidy and industry sponsor for private symphony orchestras; 3. to provide the suggestions to TCSO.
The study revealed that 1. TCSO has been contributing to basic string education in Taiwan’s society since its thirty-year development, 2. TCSO should have a scheme in administration, organization, and marketing model to promote a sound growth in the future, and that 3. the policy of national cultural subsidy must be reviewed.
