Abstract
The reaction pathway for the Ca(4 1P 1) with H 2 reaction was investigated. A pump-probe technique was used to obtain a nascent rotational population distribution of the CaH product in the reaction. A temperature dependence measurement and ab initio potential energy surfaces (PES) calculations were carried out. A potential reaction barrier of 3820±480 cm - was observed for the reaction. The results show that the reaction pathway favored a Ca insertion into the H 2 bond along a C 2vgeometric approach.
