Abstract
Granitic intrusions were prevailing in S
China during late Mesozoic. They are
separated into four Jurassic (Early
Yanshanisn), E-W trending belts in the
Cathaysia interior, and a Cretaceous (Late
Yanshanian), NE-SW trending belt in the SE
coastal area. This is the second year of a
long-term (3-year) project focusing mainly on
the geochemistry and 40Ar/39Ar mineral age
dating for granitic rocks in Guangdong, i.e.
rocks exposed in one of the major Jurassic
E-W belt. Our geochemical results indicate
that these rocks, ranging from granodiorite to
granite, mostly belong to the high-K
calc-alkaline affinity, with few synitic rocks
falling into the shoshonitic field. 40Ar/39Ar
age dating of hornblende, biotite and
K-feldspar reveal that they were experienced
with extremely rapid cooling histories for
large plutons, such as Kuidong and Jiufeng,
in the early stage of emplacement of magmas.
Therefore, the dating results of higher
temperature minerals, 165-155 Ma, can be
used to delineate the peak for the Jurassic
magmatism in this belt.
