Abstract
Due to the factors like change of power system structure, growth of load, etc., power companies have to regularly conduct power system stability analysis to timely know the system conditions, find problems and take necessary remedial actions.
This dissertation is intended to target at the power system of Taiwan island and research several power system stability related issues including system model and parameter examination, contingency analysis, SPS (Special Protection Systems) for prevention of blackouts, dynamic simulations for black-start energizing paths and PSS (power system stabilizer) analysis.
To study the issues, PSS/E (Power System Simulator for Engineering) of PTI (Power Technologies, Inc.) was used to perform the system model and parameter examinations, power-flow analysis, transient stability analysis, SPS simulations and dynamic simulations for black-start energizing paths. In addition, SSSP (Small Signal Stability Analysis Program) of EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) was taken advantaged to do frequency domain simulations for PSS analysis and the frequency domain analysis results was then verified by time domain simulations of PSS/E.
For the results of system model and parameter examinations, some common problems have been found and correspondent solutions are also been presented. For contingency analysis, mass simulation techniques have been addressed and possible security problems are identified. For dynamic simulations of black-start energizing paths, feasible energizing operation procedures have been suggested to prevent voltage problems. For PSS analysis, small signal machine computer models have been built for the future use of small signal stability analysis. Finally, Taipei area SPS look-up tables have been completed for prevention of Taipei area blackouts.
