Abstract
This paper aims to talk about the use of music in Yi-Sha Dancing Troupe''s programs and discusses the use of music in Taiwanese musical theater with Yi-Sha as an example. For this paper, the vinyl records that the dancing troupe released over the years were used as research materials.
Yi-Sha Dancing Troupe was established in 1962, and dissolved in 1985. Their performances included dances, plays, and singing, which made them a group that provided combined entertainment. There have already been many discussions over their performance styles and periodical background, but little has been written about their use of music. Thus, this paper aims to explore and analyze their musicality through use of the vinyl records that they have released, as well as referencing the contents of the "Yi-Sha Newsletter."
This paper will also organize and present the troupe''s various performance styles, preparation procedures and use of music, and go on to analyze how various musical elements were applied and used by Yi-Sha. In addition, the song choices that were made will also be compared to the passing of the times so that juxtaposition can be made.
