Abstract
Conventional pressure sensor for bio-mechanical measurement used strain gage element. These are relatively large in size and required excitation, making the measurement fairly invasive and carrying the danger of electric shock.n this study, we fabricated a pressure probe based on Fiber Bragg Grating. Previous effort in this line used polymer as the pressure boundary diaphragm which was prone to break at intermediate pressure and had a lagging response because of the viscoelastic property of polymers. The current work, thin aluminum or copper films have been employed as diaphragm. These metal films could increase the stability of and capacity of pressure range during measurement. By simulating the hydraulic pressure of bio tissue in an oil cylinder, sensitivity of the fiber pressure probe was found to be 0.51pm/KPa for wavelength calibration and 0.378mV/KPa for energy calibration, and have coefficient of determination 0.99.
